MBDA Meteor Ideal Solution for Thailand's Gripen
Missile major MBDA is promoting its Meteor BVRAAM (Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile) as the ideal solution for maximising the air defence potential, of Saab Gripen fighter aircraft belonging to the Royal Thailand Air Force (RTAF).
The Meteor BRAAM is now in full production and will enter service on Gripen aircraft of the Swedish Air Force by the end of this year. The Swedish Air Force will receive full Meteor capability as part of the Gripens latest MS20 (Materiel System 20) combat systems update. With MS20 having been obtained, Gripen can be fitted with the world's first and only functional Meteor BVRAAM capability, years ahead of other combat aircraft. Meteor capability now also becomes available for other Gripen users.
A highly advanced, long-range and agile air-to-air weapon, the Meteor is uniquely designed to counter the most sophisticated airborne threats of the 21st century. In the next few years it will enter service on the other platforms for which it have been developed, namely the Eurofighter Typhoon and the Dassault Rafale. MBDA ia also looking at South Korea's intended fleet of Lockheed Martin F-35s, as another potential Meteor BVRAAM customer. / Defense & Security Daily News
